The Color Kid Chronicles
By Kayla - TygervBrite@aol.com
Ch. One: A Missing Rainbow
One morning in Rainbowland while the sprites marched to the mines, a
set
of smiling eyes watched from a great distance.. They watched as Buddy Blue
and Patty O'Green parted from their normal morning jog. The watched as
Stormy on Skydancer galumphed through the clouds to make sure all was orderly
in the weather department. They watched as Rainbow Brite laid down to sleep
that evening, then as Moonglo took over and made sure the night sky was a
bright as ever. Then the creature behind them laughed.
"It is time," he growled. His voice sounded like two
sheets sandpaper
rubbing together. "The Rainbow is asleep, the Color Brats do not know of
their power, as I suspected. Go, minion, and prepare my land for its new
king!"
A shadowy girl with hair blacker than a moonless midnight nodded.
"Yes,
sire, I will go. Do not worry, I will not fail, unlike some who tried
before." With a twirl and a smirk, she left the creature's chamber. Once
out of earshot, she double-checked she had the few things she would need in
her little backpack. "I have everything I need. Everything else is there
and waiting." She sighed. "I hate to waste this power, I can only
use it
four times. If the Great One says I should, then I will, though." She put
on the backpack and shouted, "Forever, from now 'till then, from here to
there!"
A cheery colorful room then replaced the dark castle hallway faded into
an immense darkness. Five steps away were a sleeping blond girl in her bed.
She walked over and looked at her smiling face. Suddenly, she felt a
tingling sensation in her forehead.
Outside there was a rainbow, one of the most colorful that she had ever
seen. There were voices. "Mommy, look! There's a girl on the
rainbow!
She's riding a horse!" A small girl that looked very familiar hopped around
gleefully and pointed.
"That's nice, Melody," her mother sighed in reply.
The tingling stopped.
"I'm not Melody anymore. I'm Monochrome, now and forever.
Leave me
alone!" She shut her mouth as soon as she realized she was shouting.
Seven
children, each in their own color, dashed into the room. The jumped in
surprise to see a new girl in Rainbow Brite's room.
"Who are you?" The boy in blue asked.
"Why are you here?" The girl in green holding a frog standing
beside him
demanded.
Monochrome, for that was who the shadowy girl was, snapped her finger
and
said, "I didn't want to do this." She grabbed the sleeping Rainbow Brite's
hand and shouted, "Forever, from now 'till then, from here to there!" She
faded from the room, as did Rainbow Brite. Twink, a little white fur-ball
known as a sprite, came into the room, just slightly late.
"Oh, no! Rainbow's bee kidnapped!" He squeaked.
The color kids stood
there, just starting to realize what had happened. Suddenly, even though it
was the middle of the night, the Color Castle was all lit up and getting
ready to search for their missing leader.
The Red Chapter
Red Butler, the red Color Kid, began to sneak towards the Color Castle
door. He couldn't wait any longer to search for Rainbow. Besides, he could
handle it himself, couldn't he? Right as he was opening the door to leave,
Lala Orange spotted him and walked over.
"Where are you going?" she inquired as he slipped out.
"I can save Rainbow myself. Don't worry, everything will be
fine." He
closed the door after a quick peck on Lala's cheek. Lala went after him five
minutes later, but he was too far ahead for her to see what direction he had
gone in.
Red traveled southward for at least an hour to no avail. He had
long
since passed the Pits and was in unknown territory. The land was flat,
covered in green grass. The sky, oddly, was bright red. He enjoyed the
Christmas colors, especially that shade of red. It was brilliant! He wished
that he could do that kind of color. It was like the red stripes on a candy
cane Christmas morning in the eyes of a child. Just marvelous!
The field he walked through, with some of the greenest grass that Red
had
ever seen, was surrounded by Noble Firs, ones the perfect size for a
Christmas tree. "What is this, Christmas land?" he asked in the most
cheerful, joyous tone. If it was, it was most entrancing. Suddenly, a
brunette who looked oddly like Canary Yellow walked from between the trees.
"Who are you?" they asked each other simultaneously.
"I'm Canary Christmas, guardian of the Giving Sprinkles.
This is
Christmas Field, the northern-most area of Christmas Village. If you went to
the west, you'd run into Halloween Pat's Pumpkin Patch. Pat is the guardian
of..."
Red interrupted, "Canary Christmas?" He almost didn't
believe it, "I'm
Red Butler, the Red Color Kid. Have you seen Rainbow Brite?"
"Rainbow who?"
"She is the bringer of colors to a whole lot of places."
"You mean like Holiday Joy?"
"Who's she?"
"Holiday Joy spreads the Season Sprinkles. If there's a
holiday, Holiday
Joy is there to emphasize it's true meaning."
"Yep, just like that." Red smiled. This girl was
just as cheery as a
Canary.
"Wait a minute, you're the red color kid? Yes, of course,
you already
said that.
Holiday said I'd have to help the Red Color Kid sometime soon. C'mon, it's
time for you to learn the secrets of your belt." She grabbed Red by the arm
and skipped off. He quickly followed, curious of what this familiar stranger
had to say.
Chapter 3: The Orange Chapter
Lala shivered. It was the middle of the night, and she was in the
middle
of the Pits. What worse dilemma could this Color Kid be in? She saw
something odd just a little in one direction. What looked like, yes, it was,
there was orange ahead! She ran towards the colorful speck, soon to se it
was a pumpkin!
"A pumpkin? Well, bless my soul, what's a pumpkin doin' way
out here?"
She looked around to see that the sky was pitch black, even though plenty of
light seemed to shine down. She sat down the pumpkin and looked around to
see it was just the first in a large, muddy patch of them. "Such a mess!
I'll just have to go around it." She sat down the pumpkin and began to walk,
when she rammed into a redhead dressed in orange, who looked strangely like
Patty O'Green.
"What are you doing in my pumpkin patch? I'm Halloween
Patty, keeper of
the Honor Sprinkles, and I demand to know!" The girl stated forcefully.
"I'm Lala Orange, the Orange Color Kid. I'm looking for
Rainbow Brite.
Have you seen her?" A similar conversation to that between Canary Christmas
and Red Butler followed, ending when Pat grabbed Lala's hand and went
running, right through the mud, to a large pumpkin-house. Lala's now-muddy
dress slapped her legs noisily as they walked in.
"Now, you are absolutely positive you're the orange color kid,
correct?"
Pat picked up a wand, thickly covered with pumpkin plant vines.
"Yes, that is what I said!" Lala looked at the wand.
"What's that for?"
Pat just put a finger to her lips and tapped Lala on the head with it.
Between the leaves, flowers grew, and soon became small green pumpkins.
"This is just a piece of the power you hold. If your Rainbow
Brite
control the whole rainbow, you can use a small portion of it. The orange
portion, that is. Only when the Brite is in trouble, of course, can you use
this. Rainbow is in trouble now, go ahead, try." Pat held out the wand so
the little pumpkins dangled down.
******************************
The Watcher howled as he looked, first at the Red One finding his
power,
then the Orange One. He decided to make it a little bit more interesting for
the next in the line, yellow. He created a giant shadow-cloud, one that
could only be sent away by three things. One was the sun over-powering it,
the next, a rainbow. Neither of these could occur, it was the middle of the
night, not to mention the Rainbow One was unaware. The third had a slim
chance of happening.
"This will keep them busy for a good, long time!" He
sent it on its way
and leaned back in his throne to watch.
